Protegent and rogueware.

Rogue security software (rogueware) is a form of malware that misleads users into believing there is a virus on their computer and aims to convince them to pay for a fake malware removal tool that actually installs malware on their computer.Protegent became popular as a meme when Joel (Vinesauce) talked about it on stream.
Protogent was developed by Unistal, an indian company, and it has a full rap which sounds very bad and it doesnt even rhyme well, and its mascot, Proto, is a recolor of Super Why, but the dominant color is orange instead of green (and its fucking whitewashed like HOW)In my personal opinion, I like to call Protegent a PUP (potencially unwanted program) with Rogueware characteristics. I'll explain below so please read if you're interested.Protegent actually kind of works... KIND OF. The reason I say this is because it actually detects some malware, like Memz Trojan and other rogueware. And well, sometimes, its own program (it even tries to delete itself, it's paradoxical but it means it actually works, kind of.) However, Protegent will detect malware on random files like the rogueware it is, and it also detects things like Google Chrome and other legit antimalware programs.So the reason I say it's more a PUP than a rogueware is not the fact that it installs itself using unofficial installers for programs we actually want, there are many malware that do it. I say it because it does detect actual malware, and because it doesn't annoy you with "buy full version!!!!11111" notifications or even try to fake malware infections.
Most rogueware would never let you delete anything, since they detect random files and diagnose your computer with a "SERIOUS infection", and then they ask you to buy the full version to delete the non existent malware. And some of them, like NavaShield, may fake malware infections.The rogueware I mentioned before annoys the user with constant notifications about free trial expiring, with an annoying "tick-tack" sound too. So then, when the free trial ends, the program starts to play annoying laughing sounds that never stop, two different laughs at the same time, so user thinks there's malware doing stuff on their computer (NavaShield, ofc). Some versions of it even show a fake message about the harddisk data being deleted. This program even hides the uninstaller so it is harder to delete from your computer.Since Protegent doesn't do anything like that, and you can actually use it and delete some legit malware, I'd consider it a PUP that wants to be a rogueware, but it's just useless.Thank you if you read this.
